I watched the movie "district 9" yesterday, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. Scenes would just automatically reply in my head, I even remember dialogues.
I felt horrible about the humans experimenting with aliens. I wondered why humans are soooo obsessive with alien weaponry. All because it's superior? I know that defence is necessary, but to what ethical means?
I asked myself if I were one of the resident locals there, would I welcome these aliens into my home town with open arms? Different way of life, different mannerisms, different morals, different.. everything!
The scariest part was, I felt, that if you substituted the aliens (or 'prawns' as they are called in the show) for people from another country (eg refugees), the story would somewhat still be the same!
This is possibly the closest I have come to experiencing xenophobia. and luckily, all from a MOVIE. Phew!
