LVMH

Everwhere I turn to these days, I see a young girl/boy with a branded bag. I do wonder where they get their money from to buy these expensive items. But more so, I wonder how they can ALLOW themselves to buy such expensive items. Looking at them, I know they do not come from extremely wealthy families. I'm not saying that not being very wealthy disentitles you to buy many branded items. I just think some priorities have to be thought out carefully.

3-4 years ago, I would have probably did the same thing. Saved all my money up just to buy a little bad with some big brand logo on it. However since I've started work, no matter how much money I save, I cannot find a justification to buy such an expensive item. It is not that I do not think its worth the money, i understand that these items have quality and design in checked. But if i can channel the money used to buy these bags to some other source like an investment, to increase my future income, I would now chose the latter.

To some level I pity these young kids. Are you so hard up for a branded bag that you would buy something not in your budget? Then suffer the slow repayments on your credit card and be in debt for a long time in turn compensating your credit rating? Are you so insecure that you need your branded bag to make you feel better about yourself when you are out with your friends? Does that branded bad really make you feel elevated?

These kids have all fallen for the trap. The trap that designer wears and their marketing campaigns want you to feel. - That without their bag/sunglasses etc on your body, you are not special.

These companies all work together to make you feel that way. Want proof? Google LVMH. I dare you.

It's a whole different thing if you genuinely like the brand and the design and have the money to buy the bag and the class to carry it off. So to all my friends, I'm not referring to any of you in this blog post.

I use to envy my friends whenever their parents buy them a branded bag/item. Looking back now, I'm glad that my parents did not buy any of these things for me. For one we couldn't afford it. But mostly, it was because my Mum did not approve of that idea. "Earn your own money then buy it for yourself" she would always say. I think she has taught me well.

I learnt a new term the other day - Nouveau Riche. Which means someone who is very wealthy and buys luxurious items but is generally not accepted by the already wealthy people (Old Money mostly) I guess this describes a lot of the immigrants from China who have LOTS of money to spend.
