Irresponsible owners

I am so sick and tired of irresponsible owners. I have to rant about just this one owner.

Client brought the dog in to my clinic last Monday at 5.30pm (we close at 6pm) and wants to be seen immediately. "my dog is very sick" I asked, how long has this been happening for? "Oh, a few days"

First, they didn't make an appointment. Then they assume that they can get an appointment on the spot. Then they arrive late in the evening, say it is "urgent" that their dog is to be seen. If it really is that urgent, you'd imagine that they would at least think to call or come in at an earlier time.

Then in consult, i couldn't even get near the dog. biting, growling, barking at anyone and anything that walked by the glass window. even biting owners. I barely palpated his limbs and he snapped at my hands. All in all, this dog is not desexed, male entire 9months old, badly trained and has horrible clueless owners.

So i began my lengthy speech about the importance of dog training and castration of male dogs for first time owners. They nodded and nodded and when it was time for the dog's recheck today (I made them book the appointment), they did not turn up. They didn't even have the manners to call to cancel the appointment. And everyone knows that booked appointments that are cancelled means time wasted and hence money wasted.

I'm sooooo ANGRY! Not so much angry because he wasted my appointment time, but angry of these irresponsible dog owners. The fact of the matter is, that the dog's bad behaviour is NOT HIS FAULT. Yet, it is the dog who will be punished in the end because he will most likely end up in some animal pound, have his temperament tested and FAIL. FAILING in the pound means THE END, he will be PUT TO SLEEP!

Once again, if you do not have the freaking money, not willing to commit to a good 20years of a dog's life, DO NOT GET A DOG!
